Infarm, the world’s fastest-growing urban farming company already available in 10 countries and 30 cities in thousands of stores, collaborates with the mobility provider ONOMOTION and EIT InnoEnergy for a bespoke version of e-cargo bikes, the ONO.

Taking into account the increasing need for clean inner-city transport, five emission-free electric cargo bikes have just joined Infarm’s fleet in Berlin to deliver Infarms produce to its retail partners.

“At Infarm we are looking for partners that envision innovative solutions to unburden the environment. As we continue to pursue ways to integrate sustainability into all aspects of our business, ONOMOTION’s electric cargo bikes allow us to pilot an elegant, zero emission transportation system that is not only easy to use, but has less impact on the planet,” says Ruvan Mendis, Senior Vice President, Central Operations Global at Infarm.

The ONO, classified as an e-cargo bike, combines the flexibility of a cargo bike with the loading capacity of a small van. The vehicle can carry a load up to 200 kg. Equipped with two electric motors that can be switched on in stages, two swappable batteries and digital fleet management features, the electric bike can go a distance of up to 60 km. The weather-protected cabin allows Infarm’s Field Growers to use the bikes all year round, and the insulated cargo-modules keep the produce fresh during delivery.

The e-cargo bikes are deployed at Infarm’s HQ in Berlin-Tempelhof, where the batteries are also charged with renewable energy.

“The partnership between Infarm and ONO under the InnoEnergy project is an affirmative step toward clean and innovative mobility solutions in our cities. We gladly accepted Infarm’s challenge to develop a module to keep produce fresh and protected, and at the same time making their deliveries emission-free. We are excited to launch this pilot project with Infarm to advance our shared vision for integrated, clean and sustainable solutions,” says Beres Seelbach, founder and CEO of ONOMOTION.

Infarm was founded on a visionary mission to help cities become self-sufficient in their food production, while improving the safety, quality, and environmental footprint of the food system. With a network of Growing Centers distributed in urban areas to bring local and fresh produce directly to the cities, Infarm saves thousands of food kilometres by not shipping from abroad, removing trucks from the road, and increasing the resilience of the global food system.
